Venice Apartments – Holiday Apartments in Venice
Venice is reached from the east by the A4 motorway and from the south by the 309 trunk road. The 'lagoon city' is unique in terms of its structure and architecture as well as the fact that most of the transport around the city is by boat.
When staying in Venice it is best to rent a Venice holiday apartment in the city well in advance as there are many tourists throughout the year due to its popularity. It is easy to get around Venice either on foot or by water bus. To browse some of our apartments in Venice then please click on this link Venice Apartments.
From the Piazza Roma you can take a Vaporetto along the Grand Canal to St Mark's Square. Venice is always full, especially in the summer months, and you must allow for large crowds and long queues at the entrances to the attractions. A visit to St Mark's Cathedral and the Doges' Palace is a must, as is a trip past the famous Bridge of Sighs. However, it is well worth leaving the well-worn tourist paths and venturing into Venice's maze of small alleyways and bridges. You will discover artisans and small shops; this is not only interesting, but also an opportunity to pick up some relative bargains. In the evening, after 7pm, when the tourist hordes have melted away, a strange emptiness is left behind, and you can wander through the quiet little alleyways, where some nice restaurants can be found.
You can move around easily by following a few simple guidelines. The old city center is divided into six areas known as sestieri: Castello, Cannaregio, San Marco, Santa Croce, Dorsoduro, and San Polo. Some islands are also part of the city: Giudecca and San Giorgio, that can be seen from Piazza San Marco, and the islands of Murano, Burano, Torcello and the Lido, home to Venice’s beaches and where it is possible to go by car, taking the ferry from the Tronchetto.
There are many water buses and motorboats to take you quickly to any place in Venice. The vaporetto lines 1 and 82 travel along the Grand Canal from Piazzale Roma to the Lido, allowing passengers to view the wonderful buildings that stand alongside the Canal until it reaches the San Marco Basilica, where it is possible to catch a glimpse of the wonderful, majestic Piazza San Marco. Hiring a Gondola is an interesting way to cross the Grand Canal from one side to the other because it is both cheap and very picturesque.
