Colosseum
The Colosseum is the largest amphitheatre ever built in the Roman Empire with a capacity for up to 60,000 spectators. We recommend to take a guided tour to understand the history, construction, uses and colourful past!
Districts
The centre of Rome contains 22 districts which contain a wealth of history. The surrounding area adds another 35 urban sectors and 6 large suburban areas.
Emperors
Rome had a long line of Emperors from the most famous Julius Ceasar to others such as Hadrian who was known as one of the 'Five Good Emperors'; the others being Nerva, Trajan, Antonius Pius and Marcus Aurelius.
Fontana dei Trevi
One of the most famous fountains of this city was erected according to the plans of Bernini.
Forum
The Roman Forum is located in a valley between the Palatine and the Capitoline hills. This area was originally a marsh and was drained by the Romans who turned it into a center of political and social activity. It became the marketplace, business district and civic center of Rome and was expanded to include temples, a senate house and law courts.
Hills
Rome is surrounded by the famous 'seven hills'; Palatine, Capitoline, Esquiline, Viminal, Quirinal, Aventine and Caelian
Isola Tiberina
This island is in the middle of the Tiber river which goes through Rome and is claimed to be the world’s smallest inhabited island
Markets
Rome has a great range of thriving markets including Sunday’s Portaportese market in Trastavere. There is also the Campo de' Fiori food market in the heart of Rome.
Pantheon
This colossal temple was erected in 27 AD. The grave of Raffael is situated here.
Pizza
Rome is also the city of the pizza. To date Romans and Neapolitans still argue as to who invented this typical Italian National dish. We know for a fact that the best pizzas that we have enjoyed, were those in Rome.
Rome
Rome has various nicknames such as Caput Mundi (Capital of the World), La Citta Eterna (The Eternal city), Limen Apostolorum (Threshold of the Apostles), La Citta Dei Sette Colli (The city of seven hills), and L'Urbe (the city).
Spanish stairway
The church Trinitá in Monti is found at the top. Tired visitors to Rome, of all nationalities, can be found on its steps together with distinguished Roman ladies and gentlemen, nuns, hippies, punks, musicians, painters and political groups thus creating a colourful, multicultural bustle.
Teatro di Marcello
A Roman theatre, which had living rooms built into it. You can enjoy one the prettiest panoramic views over Rome from these viewing terraces.
